Fraud Warning

THE CANADA REVENUE AGENCY (CRA), REVENU QUÉBEC, ETC.: SUCH AS THE BANKS, THE POLICE, OR THE RCMP DO NOT ACCEPT BITCOIN. DO NOT SEND BITCOIN IN RESPONSE TO REQUESTS PRETENDING TO BE FROM THEM.

Equibytes would like to remind the public of a notable increase in fraudulent emails, letters and phone calls directed to Canadian citizens by scammers posing as the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) in an attempt to extract payment.

Contact the CRA if you receive a communication (telephone, email or other) from someone who claims to be a CRA agent before responding or giving any personal details.

Remember: bitcoin transactions are irreversible.

Do not send Bitcoin in response to such requests.

Bitcoin is a payment network; like other network providers, Equibytes is not responsible for your actions on that network.

On January 25, 2015, CRA updated their webpage entitled “Beware of Fraudulent Communications” to indicate that they have become aware of a new scam involving email money transfers.
